ORLANDO — How to allow auction buyers to bid for vehicles across competing auction company platforms until the sale is done, without the platforms having to work together?

Let outside vendors, rather than the industry giants, figure it out.

That’s the view of some remarketers who realize that the major, competing platform players — ADESA’s ADESA.com, Manheim’s OVE.com, and Ally Financial Inc.’s SmartAuction — may not come together to provide that solution.

Avis Direct: A Successful Partnership Powered By AiM Technology!

Avis Direct Tops 3,000 Registered Dealers

PARSIPPANY, N.J. –

Avis Budget Group announced on Tuesday that more than 3,000 dealers have registered to date to participate in Avis Direct, the company’s used-vehicle sales program designed exclusively for licensed dealers.

Launched in February of last year, Avis Direct is designed to provide dealers with a dedicated website to buy late-model, off-rental vehicles from the Avis, Budget, Payless and Zipcar brands — with no enrollment or purchase fees.

Condition reports: Critical both in-lane & online

If you look at the cars sold via Auction Edge, more than 93 include a photograph.

Meanwhile, roughly 63 percent include a condition report.

That gap shown in these statistics — provided during an Auction Edge presentation at the Digital Managers Session of the Auction Academy near Chicago this summer — doesn’t necessarily mean, however, that the condition report isn’t vital.
